Kurnool: District Collector Ch Vijay Mohan called upon the people to conserve groundwater through Neeru-Pragathi programme that was launched by the state government. Vijay Mohan, Zilla Parishad (ZP) Chairman Mallela Rajasekhar and Panyam MLA Gouru Charitha Reddy have launched Neeru-Pragathi programme at Kalva village in Orvakal mandal on Thursday.

Addressing a meeting held at Kalva village, Vijay Mohan made an appeal to people to come forward with a revolutionary zeal to improve groundwater levels under the Neeru-Pragathi programme. He said the rainwater could be conserved through soak pits and farm ponds. Water crisis could be easily driven out if everyone digs soak pits in their residences and farm ponds in the fields.

“We have succeeded in improving the groundwater levels by 3 metres in the last two-and-a-half years in the district,” he stated. He further stated that abundance of water could be stored by constructing check dams after desilting ponds and lakes. He assured farmers of providing machinery support for digging farm ponds for those who have less than five acres of land.
ZP chief said Shakunala, Pudicherala and Komma Cheruvu could be transformed into lush green if they take up desilting works and fill the ponds with sufficient water.

“Construction of a solar park at Orvakal is going at a rapid speed. Chief Minister’s promises are coming true by every passing year,” he stated. Charitha Reddy requested the District Collector to construct check dams at Rajula Katva Cheruvu. She also urged the Collector to clear the pending bills pertaining to NREGS works and individual latrines.

Prior to the meeting, District Collector, ZP chief and Panyam MLA took part in de-silting works. Irrigation Chief Engineer, Superintendent Engineer, DWMA Project Director, DRDA Project Director, Revenue Divisional Officer, ZP Chief Executive Officer, Kalva village sarpanch Bhaskar Saheb and other participated in the Neeru-Pragathi programme.
