Anantapur: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has promised to develop Shilparamam as a tourist spot by giving it a big boost and making it a tourist attraction. The Shilparamam will be a unique one in the state by making it surpass all other Shilparamams in the state. The centre will showcase all sorts of crafts including handicrafts, handlooms and other art forms. It will be like a retreat centre where people can come and spend pleasant evenings amidst the grandeur of arts and crafts and also a platform for entertainment.

Speaking after inaugurating the Shilparamam here on Thursday, Naidu said that Anantapur will no longer be called a drought district. The government will lift it out of the morass of poverty and make it rich on all fronts. He praised local MLA V Prabhakar Chowdary for taking an initiative to establish Shilparamam in the city.

Prabhakar stated that Shilparamam, a place where artisans can showcase their individual skills in a variety of arts, crafts and culture. From Indian pottery to a plethora of weaves, wood work, jewellery, clothes and local crafts. Shilparamam hosts the endless, year-round festival of arts and crafts showcasing ethnic beauty, rural life and history of the diverse cultures of India. The rural museum is the archetype of a typical Indian village.

Life-sized huts, authentically constructed out of baked clay and thatch, depict rural and tribal lifestyles and the life of various artisans form part of Shilparamam. The museum houses sculptures and life size models depicting the day-to-day activities of the rural artisans is very well captured in museum. Premalatha, a visitor to the central park which houses the Shilparamam says that she comes to the place to enjoy the tranquility.

Satish, a trader who came along with his family to visit the artisans’ village says he always visits the village whenever cultural programmes are organised here. Shilparamam, the village of cultural artists hosts many programmes including dance performances. The Shilparamam nestled in the central park located outside the city suburb, attracts local families with its events.

CM unveils plaques at JNTU

Anantapur: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu unveiled the plaques for construction of administrative block, pharmacy block, lecture hall complex and Gym complex at Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) here on Thursday. University Vice-Chancellor Prof Rajagopal, Registrar Prof S Krishnaiah, College Principal Prof Prahalada Rao, Vice-Principal Dev Kumar, PRO M Amka Rao and other directors were among the present.
