Visakhapatnam: The Vizianagaram District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum holding guilty of negligence has asked the managing director and other officials of AP Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) to pay Rs 3.26 lakh as compensation and the legal expenses to the kin of the R Bujji Babu, 19, who died of electrocution at Gdabavalasa village in Makkuva mandal here on April 2, 2015.

As per the facts of the case, Bujji Babu, who was selected for the post of constable and awaiting the orders, came in contact with a live wire passing near the parapet wall of his house when he was coming down to attend nature’s call on April 2 night and died on the spot. Later, the parents of the deceased approached the forum seeking a compensation of Rs 5 lakh from the EPDCL for its negligence in maintaining the high tension lines.

In its counter, the EPDCL authorities said that there was no negligence on their part as the households were constructing houses abutting the high tension wires despite repeated alerts. After perusing the case record, Forum president T Srirama Murthy and member K Sivarama Krishna held that the APEPDCL was liable to pay compensation as there was clear negligence of the authorities.
