Tirupati: Rain lashed the pilgrim city bringing cheers to the denizens suffering with soaring mercury level, on Friday. The drizzle started in the afternoon turned soon into moderate rain, accompanied by high speed wind lasting for an hour changing the sizzling hot weather to cool from afternoon.

Power supply was disrupted in the city for more than two hours with the officials disconnecting electric supply as a precautionary measure after heavy winds started blowing and in many places the tree branches fell on the road hindered traffic.

The mercury level dipped with the rain and the cloudy weather prevailing from afternoon much to the relief of the people. It may be noted here that Chittoor district is reeling under near heat wave condition with mercury level hovering between 42 and 44 degree Celsius and the rain brought respite to the searing heat.
