Social benefits sought for Dalit Christians
Leading clergy and Christian leaders felicitated the district president of All India Christian Federation (AICF) Nookala Kamalakar Rao for his contribution to several Christian causes here on Friday. District Forest Officer (DFO) Chandrasekhar, DWMA Project Director A Nagabhushanam, Rev Isaiah, Rev Timothy and others were among those who felicitated the AICF leader.
Anantapur: Leading clergy and Christian leaders felicitated the district president of All India Christian Federation (AICF) Nookala Kamalakar Rao for his contribution to several Christian causes here on Friday. District Forest Officer (DFO) Chandrasekhar, DWMA Project Director A Nagabhushanam, Rev Isaiah, Rev Timothy and others were among those who felicitated the AICF leader.
They also presented a memento to Kamalakar for his contribution to Christian unity.Speaking on the occasion, Kamalakar Rao called upon the community members to be vigilant against the evil designs of communal forces in disturbing communal harmony as there were incidents of attacks against the community clergy and even razing down of churches ever since BJP captured reins of power at the centre and in several states.
“These communal elements were emboldened at BJP storming to power. The minority communities were feeling threatened and insecure,” he added. Rao spoke on the need of secular forces supporting the demand of Christian community to treat all scheduled caste people having faith in Christianity as SCs and not deprive them of the social benefits. He said that all SCs who are Hindus, Jains or Sikhs were entitled to enjoy all benefits of government schemes but only those who embraced Christianity were deprived of their caste based benefits.
This is a clear case of social discrimination, he maintained. The government must put an end to this kind of discrimination and exclusion of the Christian community from social justice. He appealed to all secular political parties to support the just cause of the community and also the BJP party to see reason and support the demand and thereby win the community's confidence,
he added.
