Visakhapatnam: Andhra University Teachers’ Association (AUTA) has filed a writ petition No.12459/2017 in the High Court of both Telugu-speaking states challenging the orders issued by Registrar Prof V Umamaheswara Rao stating that the Andhra University Teachers Association (AUTA) has been de-recognised.

Prof Bakke Raja Kumar, who was designated as an election officer at the general body meeting held on August 9, 2016 in the presence of Vice- Chancellor Prof G Nageswara Rao and Registrar Prof Umamaheswara Rao for 2017-19 election, told reporters here on Saturday that the Registrar has instigated his personal group to occupy the AUTA office premises illegally after breaking open the lock recently.

He said the issue was also brought to the notice of the HC and a complaint was lodged with the Three Town police. With this type of disturbances on the campus, one could easily understand that the higher authorities were maintaining groups for their very survival. Prof Raja Kumar said that the AUTA is an autonomous body and was recognised by Andhra University and the responsibility of conducting elections lies with the general body only.

He said when he was officially appointed as the election officer on February 1 this year and busy making arrangements, the AUTA election schedule has been postponed from April 10 to April 22 due to the MLC election code.Prof Raja Kumar alleged that the Registrar despite having no powers to control AUTA, has issued orders derecognising the autonomous organisation and hurriedly announced that the election was already conducted by election officer Prof L D Sudhakar Babu without adhering to the by-laws or the general body decision, a clear contempt of court.

To a question, he said that as per the decision taken in the general body meeting held in last August, he has conducted the election as per the Act and announced the names of the new body which will assume office only after the HC delivers the verdict. AUTA president-designate Prof K John was also present.
