Visakhapatnam: The spontaneous action taken by the CBI official team in taking possession of personal files of those working in various departments of Vizag Steel Plant, based on fake Rehabilitation Identity Cards (R-Cards) was hailed by many union leaders. It may be mentioned here that about 72 persons had managed to get employment in the Vizag Steel Plant by producing fake R-Cards as if they had lost lands in the laying of railway track between Vadlapudi and Gopalapatnam with the support of some trade unions.

Even the Supreme Court too directed the steel management to remove such fake R-Card holders from the employment and render justice to the real land losers. Succumbing to the pressure by some trade unions, the management without heeding to the directive of the Apex Court, recently terminated some 20 employees exactly a day before their retirement. Meanwhile, a CBI team, which has been collecting information in the recent past, met the CMD and other officials and took the possession of the personal files of those still working on fake R-Cards on Friday to step up the investigation.

Steel AITUC vice-president and National Council Member B Venkata Rao and organising secretary Yelleti Srinivasa Rao responding on fake R-Card holders here on Saturday, demanded stringent action against the erring and provide employment to the real claimants besides ordering a probe into the role of trade union leaders responsible in the whole fake R-Cards episode.
