Visakhapatnam: The children of Srishti World School, Ukkunagaram, as a part of the World Earth Day celebrations on Saturday launched plantation drive emphasising the importance of 3R’s-Reduce, reuse and recycle.As part of the celebration, the students from LKG to VIII class earmarked specific areas for taking up the plantation drive in the school organic farm.
Later, they took out a rally holding placards raising slogans to protect and save mother earth.

The children also highlighted this year’s World Earth Day theme-‘Environmental and Climate Literacy’ and took a pledge to make the entire locality plastic-free. A mini workshop was also held on the theme-‘Best out of waste’ and created a rain water harvesting pit on the campus to help conserve ground water table. School director Susheela Rani, executive director Dr K Meghana and principal Sailaja Kanugo appreciated the efforts of children and the faculty to make realise everyone about the importance of mother earth.

Later, elocution, art and craft, slogan writing and poster competition and clay modelling were organised with the go green concept.At another programme at Gayatri Vidya Parishad M L B T School, a painting competition was held for the school children on the theme of World Earth Day on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, school principal K Madhura Vani underscored the need to protect the earth and minimise the use of plastic while increasing the plantation in all the areas.
She said it is the duty of every citizen to protect the earth. School coordinator Dittakavi Dakshina Murty, faculty K Sunitha and others were present.
