Vijayawada: The arrest of a social media activist Inturi Ravi Kiran by AP police on the charge of uploading a post demeaning Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, his son and IT Minister Nara Lokesh and AP Assembly with caricatures in his blog named Political Punch triggered a cyber war on Saturday involving the ruling TDP and the opposition YSRC.

The AP police raided the YSRC head office in Hyderabad and conducted searches for evidences to establish its `cyber crimes’. The police action was marked by a high-level drama with party senior leaders Vijayasai Reddy and Ummareddy Venkateswarlu took serious objections over the raid.

The TDP accused the YSRC of employing Ravi Kiran for the alleged cyber attacks on the government and the party, targeting the private lives of Naidu and Lokesh. Ravi Kiran was released on Saturday evening after questioning. He will be summoned to the police station again within a week, it is said.

Challa Madhusudhan Reddy, convener of the YSRC IT Cell, alleged that the TDP too is indulging in a similar activity in its official website, targeting Jaganmohan Reddy and his family members. He demanded that the police take action against the TDP leaders running the website on the charges on which Ravi Kiran was arrested.

Jaganmohan Reddy, condemned the arrest of Ravi Kiran, saying the police action exhibited the government’s alleged intolerance towards criticism and dissent. He alleged that the government is trying to muzzle the opposition by getting police to raid on his party in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, the TDP government drew the flak from the other opposition parties such as the Congress and the Left parties.

CPI (M) state secretary P Madhu, his CPI counterpart K Ramakrishna and APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy expressed anguish over the social media and freedom of expression guaranteed under the constitution coming under serious threat during the TDP regime.

The manner in which he was arrested by the Thulluru police at the instance of TDP leaders was reprehensible, said Madhu.
