The police and the revenue officials should conduct joint raids on illegal sand mining and leave no stone unturned to curtail the illegal transportation of sand from various places in the district. Irrespective of their muscle and money power, no one involved in sand smuggling would be spared, he added. Holding a review meeting on sand mining on Sunday at the Collectorate, Amaranatha Reddy declared that the government was allowing free transportation of sand for genuine purposes.
He said some sand smugglers were lifting the sand to other states like Karnataka and Tamil Nadu illegally.
“The police and revenue officials should conduct joint combing operations to eradicate illegal transportation of sand in the district. These criminals should be punished. Due to their intensive illegal sand mining operation, the groundwater levels were getting depleted severely,” the minister said.
He flayed the opposition parties for trying to derive political mileage over the tragic accident which occurred at Yerpedu a couple of days ago. Joint Collector Girisha said that illegal sand mining was reported at Palamaner, Nagari, V.Kota and Srikalahasthi areas in the district.
He said that a strategy has been developed to put an end to the illegal sand mining. “We have set up mandal-level task force committees to prevent the illegal sand mining. Special check-posts would also be set up shortly. The revenue and police officials would keep a special watch round-the-clock at the spots vulnerable to illegal sand mining,” he added.
