Nellore: Regional Director of Indira Gandhi National Open University Dr Donepudi Ramanjaneya Sarma said that the varsity has been offering courses six programmes to the SC, ST, backward class students free of cost. Interacting with media persons at V.R. College study centre here on Sunday

Sarma said that IGNOU has also been extending 50 percent fee exemption to the students of rural areas and under BPL category for agriculture programmes such as Diploma in Dairy Technology, Diploma in Value Added Products of Fruits and Vegetables, and Diploma in Watershed management and applications would also be provided at free of cost.

‘Though we had offered a special programme for Anganwadi workers in the state they expressed their inability to pursue the course due to their financial difficulties. We are appealing to the state government to support them for studying the course which in fact is very useful for their profession’, said the Regional Director.

Dr. Sarma said that IGNOU has been offering special courses for skill development through distance education which would provide them such good skills to the students. He also informed that IGNOU is offering certificate course in Anti Human Trafficking programme for police personnel. He requested the rural students to utilise certificate programmes which are available in the varsity.
