Amaravati: The TDP leadership seems to be keen on announcing candidate for Nandyal byelection from within the family members of the deceased legislator Bhuma Nagi Reddy, following a survey. The TDP leadership started collecting information following keen competition from two groups within the party to bag the ticket. Party candidate during the last Assembly election Silpa Mohan Reddy is very keen to contest. He was defeated by the then YSR Congress leader Bhuma Nagi Reddy by a margin of 4,000 votes.

But later Bhuma Nagi Reddy shifted his loyalties from YSR Congress to TDP along with his daughter Bhuma Akhila Priya, who is now member in the State Cabinet. After the sudden demise of Bhuma Nagi Reddy, the TDP leadership is facing a tough task to announce the party candidate for the bypoll in the wake of leaders from different groups vying for the ticket.
Now the Bhuma family is very keen to contest the byelection and is urging the high command to follow the tradition of providing the opportunity to one of the family members of the deceased to contest.

It is learnt that the Bhuma family members held consultations among themselves and informed their decision to Chief Minister and TDP national president N Chandrababu Naidu. On the other hand, Silpa Mohan Reddy is reportedly reluctant to withdraw his plans of contesting the bypoll. At one stage, there were reports that he was considering shifting his loyalties from TDP to YSR Congress to contesting in the byelection. But the Chief Minister pacified him and told him that the ticket would be issued based on wining chances after conducting a grass-root level survey.

As part of it, the TDP has started survey and initially identified the importance of candidate selection from Bhuma Nagi Reddy family. If the ticket is given to others, it would send wrong signals and it is against the tradition, said one TDP senior leader who is heading the survey. He said that one of the family members of Bhuma Nagi Reddy will be given the ticket.
It is learnt that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is now considering providing Legislative Council chairman post to Silpa Mohan Reddy.
