Summer gales damage horticulture crops in East Godavari
The summer gales on April 21 damaged horticulture crops in East Godavari district. The standing crops of banana, papaya, drumsticks and mango were damaged in Yaleswaram, Gollaprolu, Jaggampeta, Prathipadu, Kirlampudi and Peddapuram mandals to the extent of 20 to 30 per cent. .
Kakinada: The summer gales on April 21 damaged horticulture crops in East Godavari district. The standing crops of banana, papaya, drumsticks and mango were damaged in Yaleswaram, Gollaprolu, Jaggampeta, Prathipadu, Kirlampudi and Peddapuram mandals to the extent of 20 to 30 per cent. .
As per the details available and as per preliminary loss assessment, the banana crop spread in 178 hectares was estimated a loss of Rs 70.33 lakh and papaya crop in 27 hectares was at Rs 83 lakh. As far as drumstick crop is concerned the crop damage noticed in 40 hectares was at an estimated loss of Rs 60 lakh.
The summer gales damaged the mango crop in 3,750 hectares in the form of fruit drop from the tree and the preliminary losses was estimated at Rs 6.26 crore.East Godavari Horticulture assistant director K.Gopi Kumar said that the final assessment will be made on 29th of this month in order to recommend for loss compensation to farmers.
