Tirupati: Intellectuals of Rayalaseema have unanimously demanded the state government to take measures for spending the TTD funds for Rayalaseema development. The department of Adult Education and Vidya Parirakshna Samithi jointly organised a seminar at Sri Venkateswara University (SVU) here on Monday. SVU Rector Prof Macha Bhaskar has attended as a chief guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Macha Bhaskar made an appeal to the state government to take steps for spending the TTD funds for the development of the Rayalaseema region which is facing scarcity of funds to take up developmental works. Comparing to other regions in the state, Bhaskar stated that industrial growth is less in Rayalaseema region. He expressed his gratitude to the former Chief Minister N T Rama Rao for establishing Sri Padmavati Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam (SPMVV) and SVIMS Hospital in Tirupati for the benefit of Seema people.

Prof P Adinarayana Reddy (Adult Education) has criticised the past Chief Ministers of the united AP for neglecting development in Rayalaseema region for decades. He gave a call to people of Rayalaseema to fight for their region development. Senior journalist Uma Maheshwar Rao made an appeal to intellectuals to organise awareness programmes in all educational institutions to build a Rayalaseema movement to fight for Seema development cause.

Rayalaseema Saguneeti Sadhana Samithi convener Bojja Dasaratharami Reddy said that Rayalaseema was betrayed by its own leaders in pursuit of their political interests. Successive state governments in united AP have distributed water to all regions in an undemocratic way.Retired History Prof Devireddy Subramanyam Reddy has slammed policy makers for neglecting the construction of all major irrigation projects in the region.

“Despite the region having access to large amounts of water, it faces drought on account of insufficient irrigation infrastructure which is compounded by biased water policy which seems to favour the coastal districts of AP,” he added. Rayalaseema Adyana Samastha founder Bhuman, Rayalaseema Intellectual Forum convener M Purushotham Reddy, Vidya Parirakshna Samithi founder V Bhaskar, retired Professor Krishna Reddy, SVU students and intellectuals from the four districts took part.
