The alleged dual role by the BJP reportedly came to the fore at a meeting of the TDP leaders from Telangana with party president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on Tuesday ahead of the annual plenary of Mahanadu scheduled in Visakhapatnam in May last week.
Amaravati: The alleged dual role by the BJP reportedly came to the fore at a meeting of the TDP leaders from Telangana with party president and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu here on Tuesday ahead of the annual plenary of Mahanadu scheduled in Visakhapatnam in May last week.
Naidu was reportedly flooded with complaints from his party Telangana colleagues that the BJP is averse to forge a united fight along with the TDP against the common rival of the ruling TRS in Telangana.
Recalling the BJP sharing power in Andhra Pradesh as a true ally, it is playing a different role in Telangana, sending signals that it would go it alone in the upcoming general elections. Naidu, according to sources, however treaded with caution while reacting to the grievances of his party leaders on the sensitive issue.
He was said to have underplayed the issue, saying it is not a time to debate or decide on alliances. He counseled his party leaders to be proactive in cementing the relations with the ally. The Telangana leadership is understandably of the opinion that the TDP-BJP alliance partners were not able to build spirited movements jointly on people’s issues and the failure of the TRS government to realise its election promises because of the alleged narrow-mindedness and sectarian approach on the part of the BJP.
Citing the burning of mirchi by farmers on the roads as a mark of resentment against the government’s failure to ensure supportive price, a senior leader told The Hans India that some sections like peasants are launching struggles independently and the alliance partners are failing to lead them for want of vibes of unity.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao promised to build 22 lakh double bedroom flats, but distributed only 5,000 in the last three years of his ruling. Similarly, he promised to distribute 3 acres of farm land to 7 lakh Dalits but only 3,700 Dalit farmers only received land.
There is a strong need for the TDP and BJP to channelise the growing people’s resentment over the omissions and commissions of the TRS government into voting in their favour by building public confidence, a leader said.
The TDP and the BJP secured 15 and five Assembly seats respectively in Telangana by putting up a joint fight in the 2014 Assembly elections. Ten MLAs defected to the TRS from the TDP later.
