Vijayawada: Police arrested leaders of All India Students Federation (AISF), Progressive Democratic Students Union (PDSU) and YSR Students Union (YSRSU) here on Wednesday. The student wing leaders wanted to submit a memorandum to Social Welfare Empowerment and Tribal Welfare Empowerment Minister Nakka Anand Babu demanding implementation of welfare schemes for SC and ST students and not to shut down 600 SC hostels in the state.

The student leaders took out a rally from Mother Teresa statue near Siddhartha Arts and Science College, Moghalrajapuram, to meet the Minister at DV Menor Plaza, said YSR Student Union president Anji Reddy. He said that the demands of the student wing leaders include withdrawal of the proposal to shutdown 600 welfare hostels in the state, increase in mess charges as per the present market prices, facilities at all the hostels, filling up of all vacant posts of hostel warden, cook, helper and watchmen, filling up of vacant teacher posts in residential schools and providing quality rice for hostels.

AISF state president MV Subba Rao, PDSU state president A Ravi Chandra, PDSU president M Rama Krishna, K Nani, A Gopinath, A Charan Sai, Rajesh and others were took part in the rally.
