New Delhi: Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N Chandrababu Naidu and former Director-General of Police of the united AP then, H J Dora, are among the top three targets of the Maoists while Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh tops the list of Maoist targets.
The Union Home Ministry, which had laid hands on a diary of Maoists 'sometime back', has found entries to the effect in it.
Insiders, who are privy to the diary, indicate that the three, Raman Singh, Chandrababu Naidu and H J Dora, are among the top three because of their "anti-naxal operations".
Though the Chief Minister of other States, where Maoist activity continues in one form or the other, could also be the targets any day. Raman Singh and Chandrababu Naidu remain the primary targets of naxalites as of now and there is little to suggest that it would change, the insiders emphasise.
Both Singh and Naidu are known to act tough against naxalites in their States and Dora not only headed the Intelligence wing of the AP police but later became the DGP too (between November 30, 1996 to February 18, 2002) during whose period dozens of encounters had taken place much to the chagrin of human rights activists.
Naidu had survived an attempt on his life when suspected People's War naxalites exploded an improvised claymore mines targeting his motorcade on the Tirumala ghat road in October 2003. He had suffered fractures on his right hand and collar bone and minor injuries on the chest and nose then.
The explosion occurred when the convoy had travelled hardly 100 metres from the Alipiri toll gate. The mines were placed under the stones on the roadside and were off using a camera flash-gun.
It may be recalled that a staggering 1,588 people were killed in various encounters between September 1, 1995 and May 13, 2004 when Naidu was the Chief Minister of the united Andhra Pradesh.
It was alleged that most of the encounters were staged after taking people into custody. The Home Ministry had sounded a caution to AP police sometime back regarding the latest information, it is learnt.
