Several educational institutions in East Godavari have been opting for solar power in the last few years to save power and on power bills . The extension of subsidy to the tune of 30 per cent on cost of installations is also said to be one of the major encouraging factors for more institutions to take forward solar power.

Kakinada: Several educational institutions in East Godavari have been opting for solar power in the last few years to save power and on power bills . The extension of subsidy to the tune of 30 per cent on cost of installations is also said to be one of the major encouraging factors for more institutions to take forward solar power.

A 50-per cent save is expected on the regular power bills as a result of installations. Among the institutions the GSL Medical College opted for 500 KW installations of solar power supplies to both medical college and the attached hospital to the tune of Rs 3.25 crore.

The Konaseema Institute of medical sciences [KIMS], Amalapuram opted for 100 MW with Rs 75 lakh , JNTU-K campus engineering college 75 KW with Rs 50 lakh, B. V. K College of Engineering , Odalarevu 100 K W with Rs 75 lakh, VSM Degree and PG college , Ramachandrapuram 100 Mw with a cost of Rs 75 lakh are some of the major institutions which opted for solar installations in the last one year.Apart from these Rajamahendravaram urban district police opted for 100 MW with a cost of Rs 75 lakh, the East Godavari DCMS got institutions of 50 KW and the East Godavari Pollution Control Board 50Mw.
