Penukonda (Anantapur): Kia Motors Corporation, the South Korean automobile giant is all set to start works at its new facility at Erramanchi village in Penukonda mandal in the district from June.Former collector Kona Sasidhar has done the required ground work for the project; he even flew to Seoul way back in January and gave assurances needed to the Kia group. He explained in detail the arrangements and infrastructure facilities the government would be creating for the car manufacturing major.
Highlights:
- Government initiated a slew of measures to extend several incentives to the automobile major
- Water to be supplied to the plant from Gollapalli reservoir
- 600 acres of land has been acquired by paying Rs10.50 lakh per acre to farmers
- The plant expected to generate direct employment to 4,000 and indirect employment to 3,000 people
Keen to bag the project and make AP an automobile hub, the government initiated a slew of measures to extend several incentives. The district administration initiated measures including land acquisition, creation of infrastructure facilities like water and power supply.
The government is planning to supply water from Gollapalle reservoir. The reservoir has a capacity is 0.6 tmc ft and the Kia project requires 0.3 tmc ft of water per year, according to sources in District Industries Centre (DIC).The district administration also negotiated with farmers in advance and arranged for payment of Rs10.50 lakh per acre. The government did everything with utmost secrecy to make every arrangement a smooth affair. It also earmarked Rs 6 crore for diverting three lakes, which pass through the lands and merge into a river nearby.
It is estimated that the project generates direct employment to 4,000 persons and indirect jobs to about 3,000 people. Industry sources expect triggering of ancillary industries between Penukonda and Bengaluru International airport. Also several industrialists would also make a bee line to the region once the mega project is established. The government and the Kia Motors group zeroed on Penukonda town due to its close proximity with Bengaluru Airport, besides the town lies on national highway connecting Hyderabad and Bengaluru. 600 acres of land had been identified for the Rs 7,000 crore project.
The facility is expected to launch commercial production in middle of 2019.
