A strong police force of over 2,000 police personnel of various wings will be deployed on the Simhachalam hill to oversee the smooth conduct of the annual festival to be celebrated on April 28 and 29.

Elaborating the arrangements, Commissioner of Police T Yoganand said that the Nijarupa darshan of the Lord begins in the early hours of Saturday with the hereditary trustee and Union Civil Aviation Minister P Ashok Gajapathi Raju and his family, carrying silk robes and sandal paste, will worship first as per the age old tradition. Governor ESL Narasimhan, along with his family, will have a darshan of the Lord in the wee hours of Saturday.

The Commissioner said that over two lakh devotees from various parts of the region will visit the temple for Nijaroopa darshan of the Lord this year, police forces from neighbouring districts were deployed to regulate traffic and maintain the law and order.A total of 20 ACPs, 60 CIs, 130 SIs, 392 ASIs, 686 constables, 139 women constables, 358 home guards and 250 armed police will be deployed for the festival for the security of VIPs and devotees besides to regulate the traffic and prevent any untoward incident, he said.

The department has installed 74 security cameras, 34 more than last year, in various parts and set up a Command Control Room at Simhachalam. The cameras will monitor devotees to detect possible anti-social elements in their midst and also to prevent and detect the possible chain snatchings. Two police outposts have also been set up.

For free flow of devotees, the temple authorities and police have limited the darsan timings for all the protocol category visitors to only two hours- 5 am to 6 am and 4 pm to 5 pm on April 29. For the other VIPs those having Rs1,000 tickets, the darshan will be from 6 am to 7.30 am, 10 am to 11.30 am and 2 pm to 3 pm.
