Continuing its raids on corrupt officials, the Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Friday took into custody office superintendent (Accountant) of Andhra Medical College Dayam Bhaskara Kumar Rao for possessing disproportionate assets known to his sources of income.


Visakhapatnam: Continuing its raids on corrupt officials, the Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Friday took into custody office superintendent (Accountant) of Andhra Medical College Dayam Bhaskara Kumar Rao for possessing disproportionate assets known to his sources of income. Though the net worth of assets, including cash, gold, land holdings, houses and a few others, was put at Rs 59 lakh, a senior ACB officer said the assets value in the open market would be around six times of the unearthed assets.

The ACB officials said 52-year-old tainted officer Bhaskara Kumar, a native of Thadepalligudem of West Godavari district, joined Medical, Health and Family Welfare Department in the city as a typist and had worked at various capacities at Paderu, Araku, Dumbriguda and a few other areas in the region.

Kumar was promoted as office superintendent of AMC in September 2016. ACB sleuths conducted simultaneous raids on his residence at PM Palem in the city and his relatives’ houses at three more places and unearthed illegal assets.The assets seized include single storeyed building at PM Palem, Rs 65,000 cash, 270 gms of gold ornaments, Hyundai car and a motorcycle at his house.

The ACB officials also found single storeyed MIG House at PM Palem in his wife Mariyamma’s name. This apart, the ACB officials also found a house site at PM Palem in his wife and his benami B Karuna Kumari.The Director General of ACB, Andhra Pradesh, RP Thakur, said that the tainted officer has paid Rs 45 lakh as donation for obtaining a medial seat for his daughter D Priyanka.

The ACB officials also seized Honda Activa Car, house-hold articles worth Rs 8.5 lakh and Rs 4 lakh deposits in Priyanka’s name. He was arrested after the searches and would be produced before the ACB Court in the city on Saturday, the ACB officials told reporters.
