Vijayawada: There are many feathers in the cap of APSRTC’s Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) for providing many amenities, including Wi-Fi and cinema screens. It is claimed to be Asia’s biggest bus station. During the Krishna Pushkaralu, the officials constructed a beautiful city bus terminal on its premises and arranged better seating with fans at appropriate places. They also arranged kiosks for food, tea, snacks etc.
Highlights:
- Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) which is considered as Asia’s biggest bus complex failed to maintain toilets on the premises
- Authorities concerned are not maintaining hygiene though many offices, including Anti-Corruption Bureau, Information Commissioner and others, are functioning from the complex
- “Nobody can withstand the smell. I have seen many suffering and unable to eat or drink due to stink,” lamented K Rama Rao, a business executive
From outside, the appearance of complex is good. Many offices such as Anti-Corruption Bureau, Information Commissioner and other officers are also accommodated in the same complex. When top officers are functioning from the complex, the APSRTC administration should take extra care in providing proper sanitation, but of late hygiene on the premises went for a toss. If the officials really want to maintain the affairs smooth, they should not give room for allegations.
Stink welcomes the moment passengers arrive at the PNBS Complex. Lakhs of commuters who visit this bus complex have been suffering with the stink emanating from toilets. The smell is so pungent that some travellers have been vomiting. The sad situation prevailed for more than 10 days. The visitors to bus complex and their relatives and friends who come to pick them up and send them off are real victims all these days. Even though the problem is experienced every day, no official cared to protect the reputation of this famous bus complex.
“It seems the RTC officials have used to such stink. When I visited this place one month ago, I watched drain water stagnated in sub-way in the bus complex. Now, the epicentre of stink is toilet complex at the city bus terminal. Nobody can withstand the smell. I have seen many suffering and unable to eat or drink due to stink,” lamented K Rama Rao, a business executive.
“The smell is not limited to terminus area. It is penetrating into the entire complex and causing vomiting sensation and we cannot work properly,” said Naushad, an employee.
