Atmakur (Kurnool): Srisailam MLA Budda Rajasekhara Reddy came down heavily on officials for their laxity in addressing the drinking water problem, here on Saturday at Nagara Panchayat general body meeting. He demanded the officials about the action taken to face the shortage of water. Councillors brought the issue of underutilisation of water to notice of Rajasekhara Reddy. They said there is 18 lakh litres water is available in the Velugodu Reservoir and Telugu Ganga but not even 12 lakh litres of water is being used.

The MLA directed the officials to take over private bores and wells, which are having water. Some councillors blamed the chairman for indulging in corrupt practices and neglecting development works with unilateral decisions and nepotism. The common man is not even getting basic facilities, criticised the councillors.

How could a private water plant management sell the water after all it is provided water for free of cost by the panchayat. The MLA directed the chairman to take over the private water plant if necessary. The MLA asked the official what they were doing when the people of three villages diverted water to their fields and also for construction works. He said there will be a special meeting on this issue within three days and directed the officials to be ready with reports regarding the issue.
