The home minister along with Director General of Police N Sambasiva Rao inaugurated a police station built at a cost of Rs 1 crore at Allavaram, near here, and later laid the foundation stone for the Rs 1-cr model police station here on Sunday. They also unveiled a statue of Kumaraswamy in the town.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion, Chinarajappa said the state government accords top priority to the law and order maintenance as it is necessary for proper implementation of development programmes. Earlier, addressing the media, the DGP said that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu gave assent to recruit 800 constables, this is in addition to 6,000 already recruited. The Chief Minister gave his clearance immediately after he had put forth the proposal along with the Deputy Chief Minister. It shows the state government’s concern for the law and order, he averred.

The additional constables to be recruited are likely to be posted in Visakhapatnam and East and West Godavari districts. The Finance department agreed to sanction Rs 25 crore to enable the police department to acquire vehicles as part of the road safety measures.

It was proposed to build over 100 model police stations, the DGP said and added that 40 are at various stages of completion. Works are being expedited to complete at least 50 to 60 model police stations by the year-end. Later, the DGP and the Deputy Chief Minister inaugurated the police station at Allavaram. The DGP had a special word of appreciation for sub-inspector Prasant Kumar for his role in getting the police station designed so beautifully.

Later, they addressed a meeting, which was presided over by local legislator Aitabattula Ananda Rao. The MLA highlighted the problems of the police constables. Local MP Pandula Ravindrababu asked the DGP to focus on the welfare of the police constables. Zilla Parishad chairperson Namana Rambabu, MLA Pulaparti Narayanamurthy, in-charge SP Rajakumari and others took part in the series of programmes.
