The Deputy Chairman, Visakhapatnam Port Trust, P L Haranadh inaugurated the VPT Chairman-Visakhapatnam District Table Tennis Premier League for the first time at the local Port Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, he called upon the youth to work with commitment to excel in both academics as well as sports.

Visakhapatnam: The Deputy Chairman, Visakhapatnam Port Trust, P L Haranadh inaugurated the VPT Chairman-Visakhapatnam District Table Tennis Premier League for the first time at the local Port Rajiv Gandhi Indoor Stadium here on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, he called upon the youth to work with commitment to excel in both academics as well as sports.

He said the sports activity has been doubled in the new Sun Rise State of Andhra Pradesh compared to previous years as the government is according priority for promoting sports along with academics. Haranadh thanked the Visakhapatnam District Table Tennis Association (VDTTA) for taking the initiative of encouraging children by conducting tournaments.

Sports director of GVMC Dr Y Srinivas assured of his help for conducting state/national level tournaments.District Sports Development Officer June Galliot disclosed that National Table Tennis Academy was sanctioned for Visakhapatnam and the young children will have a bright future by making use of the academy. Vice- president of VDTTA J K Nayak, secretary D V S Y Sharma and port sports officer as well as Olympion M V Manikyalu were also present.

The six teams participating in the league include Jayashree Travels (JST), Deepthi Sai Enterprises (DSE), SMS Dental Hospital (SMS), Siricon Projects (Siricon), Orissa Stevedores Limited (OSL) and High Seas Shipping Associates (HSSA). In the first round matches, JST trounced HSSA by 5-2, SMS humbled Siricon by 5-2, DSE beat OSL by 5-2 and the second round matches are in progress. The winners will be given prizes by Port Chairman M T Krishna Babu at the valedictory function to be held on Monday.
