Guntur: Coming down heavily on YSRCP chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy for his Rythu Deeksha, two ministers accused him of resorting to such feats only to protect his identity, but no one would believe him.

Civil supplies minister Prathipati Pulla Rao, while addressing a press conference here on Monday, said that the Leader of Opposition had launched the two-day Rythu Deekha to save his identity and asked what Jaganmohan Reddy knows about agriculture.

He reminded that the TDP government led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had waived crop loans up to Rs 1.5 lakh keeping party’s election promise. “The government waived crop loans in spite of financial crisis.

To ensure a better price for chilli farmers, the government announced Rs 1,500 compensation per quintal to chilli farmers in the backdrop of falling prices. We are also purchasing first quality turmeric at Rs 6,500 per quintal and even third quality at Rs 6,000 per quintal through Markfed to provide a succor to farmers.

The state government is mounting pressure on the Centre to implement the M S Swaminathan Commission recommendations on better minimum support price for crops. Input subsidy will be released after getting funds from the Centre,” Pulla Rao said.

In a separate press meet, minister for social welfare Nakka Anand Babu said the people would not believe Jagan’s “fake” deeksha.

He reminded that the government was purchasing turmeric through the Markfed at Rs 6500 and Rs. 6,000 per quintal and paying Rs 1,500 per quintal as compensation to chilli farmers. He alleged that the Leader of Opposition had tried to obstruct Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme and supply of water to Krishna delta and now he is trying to obstruct the development of the state. The completion of the project saved standing crops with Godavari water, he added.
