Tenali: Japanese are known to live beyond 100 years. Here is a granny from Gudivada near Tenali in Guntur district, who is not only 106 years old but also rules her kitchen dishing out one delicacy or the other.

She posted her preparations under the title ‘Country Food’ on YouTube and earned millions of fans worldwide. In fact, 42 million viewed her video on YouTube. Impressed netizens flood her with best wishes, offers of felicitations and gifts.

Identified as a live wire for her age, Karre Mastanamma, lost her spouse quite early in her life. In fact, four of her five children passed away. Except a little hard of hearing, she is active and takes care of her daily chores, unusual for a person of her age. Mastanamma lives separately in a hut adjacent to that of her son, in Gudivada village of Tenali mandal. She worked as a casual worker and prepares food for herself on a firewood stove.

Recently, her grandson Lakshman, accompanied by friends, visited the village and noticed that his granny is not only active but also preparing her own food at that age. He and his friends made her prepare various dishes took videos of her preparations and uploaded them on YouTube.

First, they uploaded her ladyfinger curry. It received tremendous response from viewers. During the next six months she prepared many dishes to the delight of the netizens. Her preparations include watermelon-chicken curry, pumpkin-chicken curry, bamboo biryani, crab curry, prawn curry, bread- omelette and many varieties of chicken curry.

She regularly receives birthday greetings and saris as gifts. A resident of Pakistan greeted her on her birthday and sent a sari as birthday gift. Many Telugu associations in the country are ready to felicitate Mastanamma.

Mastanamma, who is cooking food from her childhood, explains the recipe and preparation of culinary items very lucidly and says that at least 15 ingredients are needed to prepare a curry—vegetarian or non-vegetarian.

Her son Subba Rao and daughter-in-law Kumari appreciate her as she does all her chores by herself despite the fact that she is 106-years-old. She is healthy, active and free from ailments. They are happy that she became popular for her expertise in cooking. The youth of Gudivada are elated at their village becoming so popular because of the accomplishments of Mastanamma.
