Anantapur: District Collector Veera Pandian has informed farmers that Rs 34 crore has been released to the district for saving their withering crops caused by intense hot climate for wetting the dry crops with water tankers. Addressing a review meeting with horticulture and agriculture officials here on Monday, Pandian said that 80 per cent of the water transportation expenditure will be met by the government while the remaining 20 per cent should be shared by the beneficiaries.

He called upon the farmers to make use of the government assistance and save their standing crops from withering.
Also, the government will be supplying four bags of groundnut seed against the last year's supply of three bags. In a bid to cover all crops under micro-irrigation, the state government has increased funds allocation from Rs 180 crore during last year to Rs 245 crore in 2017-18 financial year. For chilly farmers, the government has announced an additional Rs 1,500 per quintal. He revealed that Rs 1,030 crore will soon be released to the district for payment of input subsidy.

Collector orders seizureof commercial bores

Anantapur: District Collector Veera Pandian has directed RWS officials and municipal authorities to seize bores which are being misused to make commercial gains out of selling drinking water to people. An impression should not be conveyed that even water is being sold and money is being made out of it. Addressing a video-conference with all mandal officials on tackling drinking water scarcity here on Monday, Pandian said that steps should be taken to make water available to people and even it means transporting water by tankers.

The Collector was told by officials that 5 bores were seized in Hindupur, 2 in Penugonda, 2 in Parigi and another 2 in Lepakshi town. Even in other places private water supply positions were being raided and bores seized. The Collector said that NREGS works have not been awarded in 54 villages and demanded to know why the villages were omitted in NREGS works. Even in a prosperous district like Krishna, NREGS works were going on in full swing. He asked DWMA officials to ensure that all eligible people are covered in NREGS works.
