CPM state secretary P Madhu unfurled the party flag at state office near Mahatma Gandhi Road in Vijayawada. CITU, AITUC also conducted May Day celebrations in different parts of the city and All India Motor Transport Organisation leader R Lakshmiah participated in May Day celebrations along with CPM state secretariat member Ch Babu Rao at Governorpet.
Speaking on the occasion, the left leaders called upon workers to agitate against the anti-people policies of state and union governments. Both the governments were trying to suppress the rights of workers in the name of amendments to Acts, they alleged.

The left leaders alleged that the state government was diverting the funds of Building Workers and Other Construction Board to Chandranna Bima scheme.As per the Act, Board funds should not be diverted to other schemes or departments and the funds should be used only for welfare of workers, they added.In the evening, the CPI organised a public meeting at Lenin centre to mark the May Day celebrations. Several party leaders and trade union activists participated in the meeting.
