Nellore: Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana said that measures would be taken to complete underground drainage system (UGDS) in 110 municipalities in the state by 2022.He inspected the ongoing drinking water and underground drainage works near the District Police Office in the city on Monday and said that they were taking measures to supply drinking water and also maintain hygienic conditions in the city by constructing underground drainage system keeping in view the requirement for the next 30 years.

After completing the works in the corporations, the government would take up works in all municipalities and later it would take up in all major Nagar Panchayats, informed the minister.He said about 35 per cent works of drinking water and underground drainage system have so far been completed in the city. The minister informed that the construction company had completed works of distribution lines - around 143 kilometres out of 665 kilometres.

They had completed 9.75 kilometres of trunk lines out of 39.5 km and 31 overhead tanks have been grounded out of 32, Narayana explained.He also informed that works of drinking water and underground drainage would be completed before April 2018 and the agency concerned had also speeded up the works.

He also explained that the state government has been taking measures to construct underground drainage system in a phased manner. Further, Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana held a review meet with district officials at his camp office. He directed the officials to provide drinking water across the district especially in drought prone areas.

Reserve forest area near Kothur would be developed as ‘Nagara Vanam’ after deliberations with the tourism minister B Akhila Priya, said the minister. He also said that people of Nellore can heave a sigh of relief with the ‘Nagara Vanam’ that would serve as a breather to the city population. He also explained that they had given instructions to the tourism officials to prepare a plan of action to develop the area.

Funds would be allocated to ‘Nagara Vanam’ after discussing with the concerned, he said. Swarnala Cheruvu, Mypadu and Kothakodur beaches would be developed by providing basic amenities at these places, said the Minister. He also said that works had been take up with a cost of Rs.20 cr as part of SC/ST sub plan funds in the city. The government had allocated Rs.43 cr from SC, ST sub-plan funds to the city, he added. Collector R Mutyala Raju, former legislator M.Sridhar Krishna Reddy, TDP leaders and others were present.
