Visakhapatnam: District secretary of CPM K Lokanadham demanded that the government order a probe into the incident that occurred in Azico Bio-Phore India Limited at the Pharma City on Tuesday in which two contract workers were killed and three others suffered more than 80 per cent burn injuries.

Accompanied by CITU general secretary S Ramesh, president G Koteswara Rao and city leader Subba Rao, Lokanadham visited the KGH where the injured were undergoing treatment.

Later, he told reporters that despite frequent mishaps in the Pharma City, the government has failed in taking appropriate measures. Citing a series of similar industrial mishaps, he said that two workers were burnt alive in Sainar Industry leaving five others injured, two died in Rampex, three in Divis Pharma, Bhimili, five workers died in Hetero Drugs, Nakkapalli in 2013 January and two in Deccan Chemicals reactor blast at Payakaraopet.

The company is yet to begin production and the construction work is going on without taking any safety measures. The CPM leader said that the mishap occurred when a reactor was being cleaned manually a spark from the welding unit caused the blast killing two workers on the spot. He questioned why the government is not taking action against erring managements. If the government fails to focus attention on the frequent mishaps, the CPM will be forced to take up agitation involving the working class, he cautioned.
