GMC to appeal on judgment

Guntur: Guntur Municipal Corporation Commissioner S Nagalakshmi disclosed that she would appeal in the High Court for imposing two months imprisonment on her holding the corporation responsible for unauthorised constructions. It may be noted that the High Court had directed the Guntur Municipal Corporation to take steps to stop unauthorised constructions. For violating the orders in connection with the unauthorised constructions, the High Court sentenced Guntur Municipal Commissioner S Nagalakshmi two months imprisonment and Rs 2,000 penalty on Monday.

The court also imposed two month imprisonment on one Dr K Vara Prasad for constructing the building without taking permission from the GMC. The court directed to pay penalty within four weeks, if penalty is not paid, they have to undergo another one-month jail. The High Court directed the corporation to dismantle the unauthorised construction within four months.

The Commissioner said that the corporation will remove the unauthorised constructions and added that the Principal Secretary municipal corporation will issue orders to remove in this regard. She said that the GMC will implement the High Court judgment in connection with the unauthorised constructions. Nagalakshmi met the higher officials in the municipal administration department and explained about the High Court judgment.
