Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu assured chilli farmers that the state government would take initiative to purchase chilli stocks to protect the interests of farmers.

He said that there is no need for concern among chilli farmers and the government would purchase even the last bag of chillies.

Conducting a review meeting over the present chilli farmers’ crisis from USA on Friday, the Chief Minister directed the officials to open chilli purchasing centres at Kurnool, Ongole and Chilakaluripet and make arrangements to purchase chillies on Saturday and Sunday also.

The officials informed the Chief Minister that they are making efforts to provide minimum support price of Rs 8000 per quintal.

They said steps have been taken to remit Rs 30,000 per 20 quintals in the bank accounts of small and medium farmers by paying Rs 1500 additional amount per quintal.
