Civil supplies minister Prathipati Pulla Rao, social welfare minister Nakka Anand Babu, district collector Kona Sasidhar held discussions with minister for agriculture Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy and minister for agriculture marketing C Adinarayana Reddy on Friday over phone. Later, they held discussions with hamalis, chilli traders and commission agents.

The ministers announced holidays for the Mirchi Yard from May 16 to June 4. Hamalis said it is difficult for them to work in the Mirchi Yard in summer and demanded more holidays. After minister Pulla Rao and district collector Kona Sasidhar held discussions with hamali leaders, they agreed to cut the holidays.

Later, speaking to media Pulla Rao assured that the government would purchase all chilli stocks from the farmers and added in case of need, they would purchase chilli some more days. When the reporters specifically asked about the new scheme announced by the Centre, he said that the scheme announced by the state government was useful the farmers and that is why the government was continuing the scheme.

He said that traders had purchased 1.10 lakh quintals from 6,521 farmers and paid compensation of Rs 16.25 crore. He said the amount would be transferred to their bank accounts.
