Amaravati: Agriculture minister Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy assured the chilli farmers that the government would buy all the produce brought to the market yards and pay the promised price to the last farmer. He asked should not lose heart on the issue.

Addressing media persons at the Secretariat on Friday, Chandramohan Reddy said additional Rs 1,500 price (compensation) for mirchi would be extended to Dachepalli, Nandigama, Parchuru and Kurnool market yards too in addition to Guntur yard. If necessary, this sop would be continued till July, he said, and assured farmers that there was no dearth of funds.

Recalling the government’s announcement of paying additional amount of Rs 1,500 per quintal where the government was purchasing maximum volume of 20 quintals from each farmer, he said the amount of Rs 30,000 is being deposited in the bank account of the farmer.

While admitting that farmers were facing hardships due to fall in mirchi prices, he opined that it was due to increase in the area of cultivation and high yield which led to the crisis.

The government would not shun its responsibility of helping farmers and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had enquired about the problems of mirchi farmers though he was in US tour, the minister said.
