Kovvur (West Godavari): The state government has planned to develop the river bank of Akhanda Gowthami Godavari as a tourist centre with an estimated cost of Rs 100 crore, according to Excise Minister Kothapalli Samuel Jawahar. The minister inaugurated the boat tourism point at Goshpada Kshetram Ghat in Kovvur town of West Godavari district on Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said that the state government has planned tourism development in the state in a big way to attract tourists. As part of this, the boat tourism point was constructed at a cost of Rs 30 lakh at Goshpada Kshetram.
Besides setting up of the boat tourism point, steps would be taken up to develop the Goshpada Kshetram for temple tourism. By developing temple tourism, the youth get employment opportunities, the minister pointed out.

The boating facility was provided at the boat point with the construction of a ramp, jetty, shelter, toilets, tea stalls, ice-cream point and cool drink points. Kovvur Municipal Chairperson J Radha Rani and others participated in the inaugural programme. Earlier, the minister went on a boat ride in River Godavari.
