He led a dharna held at TTD Administrative Building in Tirupati on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, an angry Mohan said that there was no treatment for cancer patients in Tirupati. The patients from this area were forced to go to Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad for cancer treatment, he said and added that they were dying after some time as they could not afford huge expenses.
With a view to save the lives of cancer patients and to give them free treatment, the former MP said the then Congress government proposed to build a cancer hospital in Tirupati with Rs 120 crore. But, the present government never tried to start these works. Instead, in the name of health services they have decided to handover valuable land at a prime location to Tata Trust and forced the TTD authorities to fall in their line.
He said it is unfair to give Rs 1,000 crore worth of land for a mere Rs 100 crore investment. He demanded the state government to start the construction works of the government cancer hospital at Ruia Hospital. He alleged that people were unable to get the free treatment for several diseases as there are no super speciality health services in Ruia Hospital.
The SVIMS Hospital is also wearing a corporate mask and there is no difference between Apollo and SVIMS, he added. The TTD Trust Board resolution to extend free treatment from rich to poor in SVIMS was not being implemented, he criticised. Later, Chinta Mohan along with his followers met TTD Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal in his chamber and submitted a memorandum in support of their demand. Congress party’s district women’s wing president R Sridevi and others were present.
