Vijayawada: Krishna District Collector B Lakshmi Kantham said that district stood first in the state in Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). The Collector said that NREGS works have been organised on a large scale in the district to generate employment. The Collector conducted a tele-conference on MNREGS, cashless transactions and pension distribution with district-level officers at his camp office in the city on Sunday.

The Collector said that each gram panchayat should have at least three form ponds to cater to the needs of the villagers. Form ponds, Neeru-Pragathi, silt removal in irrigation tanks, play ground, burial ground development and Anganwadi Centres construction works should be expedited, he directed the officials.

He further stated that Krishna district stood first in pensions disbursement in the state. On the first of every month, Rs 38 crore pension amount is being credited into the accounts of pensioners’, he said.Similarly, Krishna district emerged first in cashless transactions in Public Distribution System (PDS). People are taking rice, sugar, kerosene and other commodities through 2,262 PDS shops, he added.
