Vijayawada: As the temperature levels are gradually increasing in the city and other parts of Krishna district, power consumption shot up by 15 per cent in the district. Use of air conditioners, fans, air coolers will rise in the summer leading to the increase of power use in the district. Average power consumption in Krishna district is 14 million units. Due to soaring temperatures, the power consumption rose to 15.40 lakh million units in the first week of May. ights:

The SPDCL is supplying uninterrupted power supply to every nook and corner of the district in all mandals with the help of 235 11 KV substations installed in the district. Besides, the SPDCL operates 911 kv feeders and 300 agriculture feeders in the district. The SPDCL has given 26,000 new connections to the poor by collecting nominal charges of 125 as part of the nation wide scheme to supply power to every village.

A senior officer of SPDCL said the department is trying to check low voltage problem in the city and other towns and mandal headquarters by setting up new sub stations. Installation and inauguration of sub-stations at K Market, Fish Market in Kotha peta in the city has reduced the low voltage problem to a great extent. The SPDCL is installing new sub-stations at Vatsavai, Chatrai, Challapalli, Machilipatnam and other mandals very soon to resolve the low voltage problem.

As the power production increased in the state and supply to Hyderabad city halted for two years due to bifurcation of the state, the Andhra Pradesh attained self sufficiency in power generation and consumption, said a senior officer. He informed that there is no problem to supply power 24x7 in the city and other parts of the district this summer in spite of increasing demand.

The government is also installing LED bulbs for street lighting in municipalities and municipal corporations to save power and supplying LED bulbs to homes on subsidy rates. All these factors have helped to save the power in the state and it is being used to cater to the needs of the consumers.
