Narsapur: Government will take steps to curb the menace of arrack and make state arrack-free, according to Minister for Excise KS Jawahar. He stated that the menace is high in Stewartpuram and Agency areas of the State.Addressing media at Narsapur on Monday, the Minister said that the excise officials were taking steps to control manufacturing of arrack in the state. “We are planning to rehabilitate arrack manufacturers with a cost of Rs 30 crores. These funds would be spent to create better employment opportunities to them,” he averred.

The minister stated that about 1,200 posts are vacant in excise department and a notification would be issued to fill these posts, soon. “Some of these posts will be filled with outsourcing employees. The promotions and transfers will take place in July,” he added. He asserted that illicit and spurious liquor would be controlled by conducting raids simultaneously. “Stocks will be seized and stringent action will be initiated,” he warned.

Jawahar said that there was no need to import the liquor from other states, as supply and demand were same. Talking about complaint of liquor being smuggled from Telangana and Hyderabad, he said that check posts would be set up in border areas to curb the menace. He opined that the excise department should not be treated as income source. MLA Bandaru Madhava Naidu and others were also present.
