Samalkot: Andhra Pradesh Excise Training Academy will be constructed at a cost of Rs 198 crore in 20 acres of land in Samalkota, excise minister Kothapalli Samuel Jawahar said here on Tuesday.He along with excise commissioner Lakshmi Narasimha Rao inspected the site on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters on the occasion, Jawahar said that new programmes including setting up of excise training academy, excise check-posts and providing more vehicles to staff are being taken up as part of excise policy as excise staff are also going to work on par with the law and order staff.

He made it clear that excise policy will be executed as per the guidelines of the Supreme Court and penalty of Rs 1 lakh is being collected from shops which sell liquor at prices more than MRP and added that steps will be taken to collect more penalty as per the new excise policy.

He further said that steps will be taken to construct own buildings for the excise department in order to strengthen the department.

Stating that 6,400 staff are existing in the excise department, he said that 1,200 posts will be filled up on contract basis as per the requirement. He explained that the Chief Minister is making efforts to provide employment through companies like Dell and Bhel to Andhra Pradesh.

He observed that farmers in Rayalaseema will be benefited as water is being given to Pulivendula.
Vice-Chancellor, JNTUK, Kakinada, VAS Kumar, excise deputy commissioner Arun Rao, excise superintendents of Kakinada, Rajamahendravaram and Amalapuram, Ramachandra rao, Surjeeth Singh and Desi Das were present on the occasion.
