Excise policy to be declared soon: KS Jawahar
Excise Minister KS Jawahar said that the government would soon declare the new excise policy.Talking to the newsmen here at ZP guest house on Wednesday, the excise minister said that the excise department will be transformed as social responsibility department instead of income-oriented department. He said that 10 districts had been declared as arrack-free districts in the state.

Under Navodayam programme, the government was providing alternative employment opportunities to the arrack manufacturers and workers. “The department already identified places like Stewartpuram and other areas to take up rehabilitation programmes,” he added. The minister said cases would be filed against the shops that are selling liquor above the MRP and would be fined Rs 5 lakh. “Soon a bill will be introduced in the Cabinet for approval. the government will obey the Supreme Court’s verdict on liquor shops on national highways,” he said.
