Annamayya celebrations begin in Tallapaka on occation of 609th Birth Anniversary

Tirupati: Sapthagiri Sankirthana Goshti Ganam, rendering of select Annamayya Keerthanas, performance of Srinivasa Kalyanam, Harikatha and musical concert marked the 609th birth anniversary celebrations of saint poet Annamacharya in his birth place Tallapaka, near Rajampeta in Kadapa district on Thursday.

According to TTD sources here, the day long Jayanthi fete took off in Tallapaka with Nadaswara Sammelanam followed by Sapathagiri Sankirthana Goshiganam by the artist of Annamacharya project. Later, the processional deities of Lord Srinivasa, Sridevi and Bhudevi taken in a procession in a tastefully decorated Kalyana Vedika where Srinivasa Kalyanam was performed amidst chanting of hymns by Veda pundits for two hours.

The celestial wedding performed with religious fervour which was attended by scores of locals. Later, All Projects Special Officer N Muktheswara Rao felicitated Annamacharya descendants on this occasion. Rao was deputed specially for conducting the birth anniversary celebrations in home turf of Annamacharya.

The TTD officials Subramanayam, Padmavathi and others were present. In the evening, group singing of Annamacharya Keerthanas by BV Vidyasagar and his troupe from Vijayawada and Harikatha Ganam by G Chandrasekhar from Tirupati was conducted to mark the occasion.

Unjal seva and devotional music programmes which were also held in the evening enthralled the locals at 108-feet statue of Annamacharya, near Tirupati-Kadapa highway near Tallapaka village. In Tirupati, as part of the week long Jayanthi celebrations, devotional musical programmes on Annamayya Keerthanas were held in Mahathi Auditorium and also in Annamacharya Kalakendram, on the first day.
