Eluru: West Godavari district administration decided to take up a thorough verification on the grounding of self-help units sanctioned to the beneficiaries under various welfare schemes. The verification has already begun in the district to check whether the beneficiary launched the unit. This verification is now concentrated on the units sanctioned during last five years in the district.

district collector K Bhaskar is of the opinion that due to non setting up the sanctioned units results in suffering of other beneficiaries who are in wait of the financial assistance. The B C Corporation during the 2015-16 financial year had sanctioned loans to 4,039 poor people to set up various units.

The official teams are now verifying the status of these units.The district collector K Bhaskar said that due to non-setting up of the units sanctioned to the beneficiaries, the number of loanees is on increase. This was creating problem to the administration as well as to the banks as the loans could not be used properly. The collector said that present verification will concentrate on village-wise beneficiaries who get the loans for setting up of various units. If the beneficiary did not ground the unit, the officials will recover the subsidy amount from those defaulter-beneficiaries.

He stated that the administration will take action against the bankers, who sanctioned loans to the beneficiaries who did not set up the units.The collector pointed out that during the last two years 11,681 beneficiaries had been sanctioned loans under Kapu Corporation and 5,149 beneficiaries under SC Corporation schemes. 349 tribes have sanctioned loans under various tribal welfare schemes. The collector directed officials to verify the status of these units and upload the photos of the grounded units.

While reviewing with the officials, the collector observed that the BC Corporation had sanctioned loans to 3,028 people out of the 10,390 beneficiaries. Under Kapu Corporation, only 2,701 people got loans out of the 7,000 applicants.The state government had targeted to benefit 4,000 beneficiaries to improve their living standards by getting loans, the collector also held discussions with the state officials and targeted the beneficiaries number at 6,500. However, in field level, the officials or the bankers did not reach the fixed targets, collector expressed agony over the issue.
