Kakinada : The District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee, East Godavari district in its DISHA (District Initiative for Self reliance and Human Advancement ) meet passed resolutions seeking the union government’s nod to coincide the MG-NREGS works under implementation in the district with agricultural needs. The meet conducted at the Collectorate on Thursday was chaired by Rajamahendravaram MP Maganti Murali Mohan.

Speaking on the occasion, the M P observed that the NREGS is a novel scheme meant for providing employment to rural poor and integrating these works with the agricultural needs , yielding good results for both the farming community and labourers. The committee also passed resolution seeking the union government to increase the quota of Antyodaya cards to the state, for supply of free rice to the poor.   The committee ales requested the officials to raise wage component under MG- NREGS so as to provide more employment especially in Agency and upland areas in the district.

AP Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Reddy Subrahmnayam suggested that the officials also ensure pensions distribution under NT R Bharosa by 5th of every month as indicated by the government .District collector Kartikeya Misra said that efforts are being made in the district to increase wage component under NREGS by providing more works in agency and upland areas in the district for provision of irrigation canal system .It was targeted to take up 2,500 farm ponds in the district by the end of May and 20,000 by the end of the year.In this meeting National Rural Livelihood Mission, PM Gramina Sadak Yojana, Housing , Rural Water Supply and other Central schemes were also reviewed .
