Vijayawada: Keeping in view of the increasing accidents and need for taking up rescue operations within a short span of time, the disaster response and fire services department is procuring advanced equipment. Some of the equipment is so useful that a car’s doors and roof can be separated from the car in less than 10 minutes to save the lives of the passengers trapped in the car. The trapped passengers can be shifted to hospitals and can be provided first aid.

It may be noted taking out the trapped passengers from the damaged vehicles after the accidents is the most difficult task faced by the police and fire services staff or 108 services teams. Such problem can be prevented in future with purchase of sophisticated equipment by fire services department. The disaster response and fire services department has purchased 11 sets of equipment, which contains hydraulic cutter, hydraulic spreader, hydraulic ram and hydraulic pump.
These four instruments are enough to cut off the doors and roof of the car from the rest of the body. Technical experts conducted a demo at the state head office of the disaster response and fire services department in the presence of fire services DG K Satyanarayana and fire officers of the 13 districts. The department had purchased 11 kits initially and will be dispatched to the districts by the end of May, said DG.
The officials present on the occasion expressed satisfaction over the functioning of the hydraulic equipment. A passenger car’s four doors and roof were cut off from the rest of the body and wind shields were also broken with the equipment. This hydraulic equipment is easy to carry and operate.
The district fire services department is imparting training to the staff to use this equipment. Besides, the department is also purchasing equipment like concrete cutters, hammer cum driller other cutters, movable small generators to use during the rescue and relief operations.These hydraulic cutters can be used to rescue the people trapped in the buildings and workplaces during the fire accidents and other mishaps. Doors can be easily broken with the sophisticated machinery to save the trapped victims.
