Vijayawada: The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will develop Kothuru tank located at Kothuru Tadepalli village in Vijayawada rural mandal by allocating Rs 50 lakh. The tank, which is located 15 km from the city, can be developed into a tourist spot.
Kothuru tank is an extent of 150 acres and is supplying water to more than 300 acres at Kothuru Tadepalli and Velagaleru villages. This tank was neglected for the past several years, said the local farmers.Recently, a team of JICA saw the Kothuru tank and decided to take up the tank’s development. Later, Water Resources Department (WRD) officers sent proposals to JICA in this regard.
JICA agreed to sanction Rs 50 lakh for strengthening the tank bunds, sluice and water flowing area. According to Water Users Association (WUA) president D Siva Rama Krishnaiah, who has been serving as the president and developing Kothuru tank, said that this work will be taken up after completion of tender process. He said that Rs 50 lakh is not sufficient for the development and seeking more funds from the government.
“Polavarm Right Main Canal (PRMC) is flowing adjacent to the Kothuru irrigation tank. The WRD officers may arrange one sluice or other for filling the tank,” he opined. He further stated that the government sanctioned Rs 10 lakh under Neeru – Pragathi programme for silt removal. These works would be started next week.
