Media should not sensationalise news: Press Academy Chairman
The Andhra Pradesh Press Academy chairman and senior journalist V Vasudeva Deekshitulu said that the media should not sensationalise news, but mobilise the society with the journalistic values. He interacted with journalists in Ongole here on Thursday.

He revealed the future plans of Press Academy for skill development of journalists in the state. He said, “As the Press Aacademy is put in the 10th schedule of the State Reorganisation Act, the Andhra Pradesh Press Academy was facing a lot of struggles till now. We expressed our consent to come to Vijayawada to work on full throttle, but the issues around the government forcing us to spend a few more weeks in Hyderabad. In the meantime, we are visiting all the districts to learn about the situations and requirements of the journalists working at the ground level.”
He further stated that they are planning to conduct training and refresher classes in each district, preferably at the division-level to help the mandal reporters to get benefit from them. They are also ready to conduct seminars and round-table conferences with speakers from various sections to help the journalist fraternity upgrade their knowledge on various issues for their daily duties, he said.
The Press Academy also publish and distribute the study material, books to the journalists, he added. R Umamaheswara Rao, principal of Rachana Journalism College in Hyderabad and one of the guests, who interacted with the journalists on behalf of Press Academy, said that there is an unending scarcity of professionals in the journalism.
He said, “There are a lot of changes in the journalism we are experiencing with the changes in technology. The reporters should learn to write a copy which the desk people need not require to edit or rewrite it, but send for printing directly. We should have knowledge of all fields and aware of media laws to write sensible issues without getting into any trouble in future. As the Press Academy is planning to conduct practically oriented training for the journalists, the district and mandal level journalists should utilise it.”
Press Academy secretary D Srinivas, I and PR regional joint director N Venkatesh, assistant director M Venkateswara Prasad and other Press Academy officials and I and PR staff participated in the programme. The journalists from various organisations and unions felicitated the Press Academy chairman and submitted representations on various issues of journalists in the district.
