Srikakulam: Swine flu alert was sounded in Srikakulam as seven positive cases were detected and out of them two patients died in the district. The patients were identified as R Sailaja of railway quarters at Itchapuram, A Tulasamma of Loddaputti in Itchapuram mandal, R Prasanthi, Y Umamaheswari of Srikakulam city and B Jyoshan of Sreerangam village in Kotturu mandal. The deceased were identified as K Krishna Rao (36) of Bethalapuram in Mandasa mandal and Pillala Roja (41) of Kakiveedhi in Srikakulam city.

Out of seven swine flu positive cases, two cases were detected by CMC Hospital of Vellore and Chennai and Ranbaxy Laboratories in Mumbai and all other five cases were detected by microbiology department of King George Hospital (KGH) in Visakhapatnam. After admitting to various hospitals in Srikakulam, the patients were referred and being treated at various hospitals in Visakhapatnam.

‘‘After detection of a few swine flu cases, we have started a separate ward at RIMS Hospital here for treating the patients”, district medical and health officer (DM&HO) Dr Sanapala Tirupati Rao said. “We are sending all suspected cases samples to KGH in Visakhapatnam for microbiology tests if they were detected positive, we start separate treatment for patients,” he added.
