Vijayawada: Krishna District Collector B Lakshmi Kantham inspected Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) works, which were taken up under Neeru – Pragathi programme, along with Penamaluru MLA Bode Prasad, at Ganguru, Gosala and Poranki villages in Penamaluru mandal near Vijayawada on Friday. The Collector inspected desilting of irrigation tanks, digging of farm ponds, water harvesting pits and other related works going on at Poranki, Gosala and Ganguru villages.
Speaking on the occasion, the collector said that the district administration prepared a plan for Rs 122 crore for Neeru – Pragathi programme. On Thursday, 1,000 farm ponds, desilting of tanks works were started in Krishna district, he said.
Over 4, 000 farm ponds' construction works were completed in all 970 villages so far, while the aim was 12,000 farm ponds, he added.
He further said that people representatives, students, gramaikya sanghalu, social organisations, water users associations and people would be involved in the Neeru–Pragathi programme. The mandal-level special officers would conduct meeting every day at village panchayat offices and later they went to field-level inspection, he said.
Later, the Collector directed the department officers to pay MNREGS workers their wages without delay. In this regard, if any problems arise, the persons concerned can contact him personally, he added. Penamaluru MLA Bode Prasad said that migrations were restricted in his constituency with the MNREGS works. People would be involved in all these works, he said. Krishna District Panchayat Officer (DPO) PSA Prasad, Penamaluru, special officer K Krishna Kumar, MPDO Uma Devi, tahsildar Murali Krishna and others accompanied.
